Hassan is a major commercial and tourism hub in the state of Karnataka, India. Situated towards the west of Bangalore 150 km away Hassan region known as Malnad accounts for 80% of India's coffee production and exports. Hassan is the home of Master Control Facility of ISRO and also a major education center. Hassan region boasts three of India's top ten heritage sites which are Shravanabelegola, Belur and Halbid.

Hassan Airport is designed to be India's major Aviation Life Cycle support hub which would also be a cargo hub apart from addressing the tourist passage. Hassan airport runway and airside facilities would be designed to support take off or landing of any type of aircraft made as of today. The plan is to facilitate creation of aviation eco system around Hassan that attracts and sustains the stake holders to Hassan.

At steady state which will be by 2015 Hassan Airport would cater to a passenger capacity of 3 million and cargo capacity of 100,000 ton yearly. Hassan would be supporting large scale Aircraft Maintenance Modification (AMM) activities along with Aviation training which would make it as a true Aviation life cycle support hub.
