Hassan Airport commences work
Jupiter Aviation and Logistics is scheduled to complete construction of Hassan airport by 2009; this will boost tourism and export of coffee from the region.
HD Devegowda, former Prime Minister who represents Hassan Parliamentary constituency performed the bhoomi pooja at Hassan on 26 August, 2007.
Jupiter Aviation and Logistics Private Limited won the bid to construct the airport earlier this year and expects to complete the work in 18 months with the first aircraft scheduled to land in Hassan by early 2009.
The airport will cater to business tourism traffic of Hassan, Chikamagalur, Mysore and Tumkur districts and will boost Hassan’s commercial business of coffee exports.
Tourists coming to Saravanabelagola, Belur and Halebidu will benefit with this airport connection.
A training hub will be set up in Hassan to supplement the functioning of the airport. VimanaVidhya, the Aerospace Academy promoted by Jupiter Aviation will train over 600 cadets Pilots/AMEs and ATC staff in various levels.
The airport would be an Aircraft Maintenance and Modification (AMM) hub. With the company’s international alliances with EADS, Airbus, Thales and ESMA, the project will receive expertise in technology, venture and infrastructure development.
