Hassan Airport in 18 Months

Bangalore/Hassan: Export of coffee and other produce in Malnad will receive a major thrust in the near future as work for the Hassan airport started on Sunday with the foundation-laying ceremony, which was conducted by former PM and Hassan MP, H D Deve Gowda, in the presence of his son-minister H D Revenna and MP Rajeev Chandrasekhar. The airport is expected to cater to the business and tourism traffic of Hassan, Chikmagalur, Mysore, Kodagu and Tumkur districts. It is also aimed at promoting tourism sports around Hassan, Shravanabelagola, Belur and Halebidu.
Jupiter Aviation and Logistics Pvt Ltd has been entrusted with the construction work and the company has assured to complete the project in the next 18 months, with the first aircraft expected to land in Hassan by early 2009.
A training hub would be set up in Hassan to supplement the functioning of the airport. VimanaVidhya, the aerospace academy promoted by Jupiter Aviation, will train over 600 cadets pilots/AMEs and ATC staff at Hassan.
This apart, the airport will be an aircraft maintenance and modification (AMM) hub. The project is said to be the part of Rajeev Chandrasekhar’s commitment to the state.
The aviation company further promises to create an aviation ecospace in this tier-II city. The airport and related aviation activities in Hassan will generate employment opportunities in the next 5 years, besides attracting vital investment in and around the region.
Jupiter Aviation has forged many International alliances to bring together the separate sets of skills in technology, venture and infrastructure development. EADS, Airbus, Thales, ESMA from France have allied with Jupiter Aviation, which is an aviation venture development subsidiary of Jupiter Capital, the company founded by Rajeev Chandrasekhar.
